Happy Holidays

Well, we’re heading into the final crunch – it’s time to eat shortbread! Before you run off to family gatherings, I’d like to extend my best wishes for the season.

May you and yours all have a happy and safe holiday – with lots of good cheer, good company and yummy nibbles. (Yes, I’m ready for the shortbread – yum!)

I’ll see you all in 2010. (Wow. 2010.)

Romance Junkies Review for KISS OF FATE

This for Erik’s book, a bit late, but we’ll take 5 blue ribbons anytime! Here’s the good bit of what Noelle had to say:

“Terrifying enemies, thrilling battle scenes, amazing imagery, electrifying love scenes, and a story that sucks you in from the first page all combine to make KISS OF FATE an amazing continuation in the DRAGONFIRE series. The villains are creepy enough to make your skin crawl, especially Boris and Magnus. I especially liked the glimpses into the lives of the other Pyr warriors-even though the book focuses on Erik and Eileen, we are still shown bits of what the other dragons are going through. The romance between Erik and Eileen was amazing. Red hot, poignant, and sweet in just the right amounts. The fact that Erik thought they were fated to part made it even more heartbreaking at times, especially from his point of view. All in all, this book was excellent, and I highly recommend it! Well done!”

Happy Solstice!

Today is the Winter Solstice. It’s the shortest day of the year, so the days will start getting longer again. Many northern European cultures had big celebrations for the Solstice, either to celebrate the return of the sun or to encourage it to come back.

We used to have a neighbour from Scandinavia (I forget which part exactly) who burned a torch all night long on the night of the Solstice. Mr. C. always thought that was cool – perhaps it spoke to his inner Viking. (Most of us do have one, given how far and wide the Vikings travelled and what they did with the local women once they got there.)

Do you celebrate the Solstice? If so, how?

Ravelry

Well, I finally got organized – you can find me on Ravelry as DCDknits.

I found Corinne already – where are the rest of you?

See you there!

Holiday Baking Rules

Do you do holiday baking? Do you give baking to other people? If so, you must have holiday baking rules.

We have just one: residents of the house have to eat the ugly ones. The misshapen cookies, the lopsided tarts, the pastry that got a bit too brown, the sad-looking sausage rolls – all of these are available to household residents, with no restrictions.

But touch the pretty ones, and you’re in big big trouble.

Guests, of course, only ever see the pretty ones.

What are your holiday baking rules? And what do you bake?
